Alright, so Monday was fun and a good start to the week. It was VERY cold though. Apparently, it was one of the coldest days in history here. My host sister, Siomi, was interviewed by Guatelevision about it on the street. My whole family watched the news until 10 o'clock trying to see her. Finally at the end of the news she and her friend were interviewed but Siomi barely said anything. My host family and I gave her hell for us having to wait up to see her not even speak! I was running a little late this morning but had time to eat some cereal with COLD milk. Class started at 8am today and went till our lunch break at 12pm. Then we walked around the town with our teacher, Mirsa, for an hour. After that, we just explored the city, went by the bank, used an internet cafe (where we heard Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance") and ended up singing along/dancing to the Ghostbusters song in a tienda where we bought cokes. It was pretty hilarious. I watched a movie with Don Julio when I got home late in the afternoon. We were so into the movie that we postponed dinner. We had tortas de guacamole.
Tuesday, I woke up at 5:15 am (oh my gosh these early mornings are killer) and had to meet the group at the municipality to catch the chicken bus at 6:15am. We made it fine to Antigua and then waited for our teacher for 20 minutes. Then we traveled to Santa Lucia for a long day at PC Headquarters. It was so great to see everyone! It is like we have all known each other forever. We had meetings ALL day. We met our Assitant Peace Corps Director, Flavio, and learned more about our ecotourism goals, which is kind of exciting! It was interesting to hear more about everyone's host family and city experiences. For lunch, I had chow mein and a rabbies shot. We all left headquarters at about the same time and ended up on the same chicken bus. It was so ridiculous and crowded. At one point three of us were so close it hurt! It was a blast though and we are definitely making memories. By the time we got home, we had had about a 12-hour work day. For dinner, we had platanos cooked many ways, including soup and rellenitos. I turned in pretty early.
Then today, Wednesday, I woke up late and had some huevos rancheros, which were so hard to stomach after the PC medical officer talking about eggs yesterday and that it is important not to keep them long because she once cracked one after 2 weeks and an embryo came out. Anyway, made it to Patti's house a little late but that was fine because our first thing wasn't until about 8:30 anyway. Craig, training director, and Wendy, assistant country director, came to visit with us to answer questions and give us the volunteer handbook to look over. Then our technical trainer, David, came and took us to see our future worksite for the next few months. We'll be working at a local park building a playground out of recycled materials and organizing a market for local artesians. We had some spanish class after that, lunch, more spanish class, introductions to the local police, and then we spent an hour at the internet cafe. I then came home, chatted with the sisters, and had hotdogs for dinner (questionable, i know...but suprisingly good). Oh yeah, and last night my host dad realized his month long vacation was supposed to end yesterday and not Thursday like he thought. He kinda freaked out. So he slept today from 2pm-9pm because he has to be at work at 10pm tonight. He works different shifts at a local Nestle plant. Hasta Luego!
