La Feria....

So yes, it is Saturday and we have spanish class at 8am....ridiculous. It is also la feria in our town, so there are lot's and lot's of bombas, fireworks, and mucho mucho noise! So I guess we weren't really going to get much sleep anyways. During class we went and introduced ourselves to the artesanas. I can only remember one or two names....need to get better at that.
After lunch, our group discussed some of our group homework. While at Patty's house, we heard some lady vomit in the street. Apparently the norm for ferias here is for people to get obliterated drunk. There is also lot's of dancing in the streets. We went to watch this dancing that is part of the combite, or our equivalent of a parade. Everyone is dressed in some sort of costume, whether it is some furry character from Looney Tunes, men dressed as old women, or cowboys and cowgirls. They all do choreographed dances to music blasted from huge speakers in the back of pickup trucks. We naturally had to document this. I really haven't been taking many photos though because we are not really supposed to be tourists and are trying to integrate in the community. One of these pictures is of Evan and me holding twin girls that are my host cousins.

So I expected that after dinner my family would go to the dancing/concert that took place in the town center since they had talked about the feria all week. However, we had dinner, hungout, some family came over and we watched movies. I later came to the conclusion that my host parents think they are too old for night activities and my host sisters do not go places where there will be lot's of uncontrolled drinking. It's a very different culture so I'm learning and adjusting.

Hasta Manana!
