Feliz Cumpleanos a Mi!!

So today's my 23rd birthday. I'm in Coban for a few days because my family wanted to fumagate my room because there have been a bunch of big spiders. I needed to leave for a few days so they could do that and theis was a good time because I have a meeting here today and tomorrow for peace corps stuff. So I'm treating myself to some nice things. Had a ham and cheese sandwich, fries, and a brownie yesterday and it was the best meal i've had in a while. I know you're thinking ham and cheese sandwich? Really? But the bread was so good and it was the first sandwich I've had in a WHILE. Also, I got my laundry done at a laundromat which is quite a treat because they wash and dry your clothes in machines (much nicer than by hand and hanging them to dry) and they smell sooooo nice. And as if that wasn't enough, I also get to use a nice hot shower. So all in all, this is also kind of like a birthday present to me.

Some things that have been going on lately:
* had to come up with an Earth Day activity and write a lesson plan in a couple of days for the whole school in my community of 300 kids....which I have to lead this Thursday.
* talked with my host family from Alotenango and my host mom said she missed my voice....I miss them and can't wait to visit them....also because they have good food!!
* have a meeting today with Viviente Verapaz, which is an alliance of several different tourist sites that have PC volunteers in Alta Verapaz. Excited about this project and promoting our sites
together.
* have a security meeting Tuesday and get to meet all the volunteers that live in this area.
* have been working on a website, which includes taking pictures of tourists, for the Coffee Tour with another organization that provides support to us
*many of the kids now yell my name when I walk by because I went and introduced myself in all the classrooms one day with the principal......"ADIOS WIIIIIILLLLLLYYYY"
*taking classes for Queq'chi-the local mayan language- it's pretty hard because they make different noises like clicking and stuff
* and have been drinking some good coffee.

So all in all, still getting to know my community and assimilating in the culture. Things are going well. I think we're about to go to the mall....doesn't sound like the Peace Corps, I know....but Happy Birthday to me!!
