Okay...so the title of this post, Puchica, means WOW in spanish here in Guatemala. Why am I saying, WOW? Um, probably because my site is now on the web! WE GOT OUR WEBSITE UP AND RUNNING! I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am. I didn't physically make the site (big thanks to Counterpart International though who did make it), but along with my counterpart, I advised changes to four or five different proposals, including everything from the borders and fonts to which pictures to use and uploading the video to YouTube so we could have a link. It has been a process of about a month, but definitely worth the wait. Check it out, www.coffeetourchicoj.com, and let me know what you think (well only if it's positive). Just kidding because I'm sure we can still change things and add things that are seen as important.
Anywho, what else has been going on? Well I had my site visit by my APCD, assistant peace corps director, Flavio. Highlights from that: he straigtened some stuff out with the people from my co-op about the process of tourism and probably will come back in the future to help with a big workshop for the whole co-op to learn what is tourism, he was very complimentary of my spanish language skills (i think this was just because he only remembered my spanish from the first time we talked), he loves the tour guides at my site, he complimented the food prepared for him, and was overall impressed with how things were going. I felt good about this.
Then, this weekend we had a barbeque at another volunteer's house near Coban for a welcome party for us "new" volunteers to the region. Then Sunday was the half marathon of Coban. I have pictures I'll upload later of that. It was pretty impressive. Several PC volunteers participated, and not being one of them I got to watch and indulge in Domino's pizza while waiting.
Things are still going well at site. I've been here for about a month in a half and it already sort of feels like home. Anyway, the main point of this post was to share the good news about the website. Maybe we'll have a site unveiling party at the co-op tomorrow. Adios!
Love the website! I think the photo slideshow at the top is great...and the coffee beans at the top are a great added touch! Way to go!
