Celebrating 'Guatependence'...Campo Style

Happy Independence Day, Guatemala! Guatemala is celebrating it's 190th year of independence today, September 15th. I'm celebrating it in my coffee cooperative with my co-workers. It's pretty low key here. I guess in city center there is much more hooplah with parties, food, music, and dancing. Where I live, it is pretty rural and a holiday usually just entails hanging out around the house, chatting with friends in the dirt road, maybe a game of soccer or swimming in the river, and then a big lunch with the family of tamales.

The weather is awesome today. My thermometer is reading 80 degrees. It is really sunny, blue skies, and a very nice breeze. I just got back from a walk through the cooperative with my co-worker. We also did the zip line here. It was a nice way to relax and breathe in some fresh air. A little later we are going to go for a hike and maybe swim in the lake here, weather permitting.

Here is a link that has a little more info about Guatemalan's independence:http://www.hispanicallyspeakingnews.com/notitas-de-noticias/details/felicidades-guatemala-on-your-190th-year-of-independence/10287/.

That's all for now...
